Thank you to everyone who has contacted us. We are thrilled that our stories are motivating people to come forward and feel confident to speak about their experiences and pain. Here is some general information, in response to so many questions, supplied as a courtesy to many folks that may be logging onto our site:
Naltrexone is a medication that has been used for 20+ years for alcohol addiction. It has recently been discovered that is also acts as an opiate blocker in the brain. It is NOT a narcotic or an opioid. It is offered in a variety of forms, the most effective that we've seen is in injection form or pellet-implant form. When taken, for example, as a shot, it almost immediately reduces the cravings for opiates and gives the patient 3-4 weeks of "clean time," in the sense that any opiates taken WILL HAVE NO INTOXICATING EFFECT, and therefore the user usually deems using as a waste of time and will stop using. If this process is repeated for a few months (shot is monthly+/-), it gives the user a bridge from using opiates ..... to clean. The main requirement to getting the shot is that the user MUST be completely free of ALL opiates for at least 4 days prior to receiving the shot in order not to be very, very sick. Our contact for the injection is (Nurse) Arlene Dumais, 860-449-9201; the injection or the pellet-implant is Dr. Shafa, 617-285-8599. Please mention that you obtained the contact information from Parents 4 A Change.
The above information is supplied for your convenience. However, I look forward to speaking or communicating with everyone who has questions or that we can share more detailed information with. I, Parents 4 A Change, share this information with society at large because many of our friends and members have found success with this relatively new treatment option, but we ask each family/user to be responsible for his/her own choices.
